What this product is for

Closed-cell sponge rubber is a sealing material, not an insulation product. It is specified where you need a compressible, water- and air-tight seal that recovers — gaskets, seals and rollers — and the choice of polymer matters more than the density.

Static gaskets and seals

Compressed once and held: door seals, enclosure gaskets, hatch seals. What matters here is compression set — how much of the original thickness comes back, and how much force it takes to seal.

Dynamic sealing

Where the seal is cycled or the part moves: high resilience grades hold their shape through repeated compression, which is where a cheap foam fails by taking a permanent set.

Industrial rollers and pads

Density 200–500 kg/m³ and hardness 10–60 Shore C covers a wide range from soft pads to firm rollers. Specify hardness and compression set rather than density alone.

Air and water tightness

The closed-cell structure means the material does not wick — it seals against air and water rather than absorbing them, which is the reason to use closed-cell rather than open-cell sponge in wet or outdoor locations.

Choosing the polymer

Four base polymers, and the choice is decided by the media and the temperature rather than by price:

What to send us: the media being sealed against, the operating temperature, the compression (how far it is squeezed and whether it stays squeezed), the hardness you need in Shore C, and the profile or sheet format. With those five we quote the polymer rather than guess it.

Questions buyers ask before ordering

Is this an insulation product?

No. Closed-cell sponge is a sealing material — gaskets, seals, pads and rollers. For pipe and duct insulation use the closed-cell NBR tube, sheet or tape, which are separate products with published thermal data.

Which polymer should I choose?

Follow the media and the temperature: NR for general dry sealing, CR where oils or ozone are present, EPDM for water, steam, UV and outdoor exposure (grades to 120–150 °C), SR where the temperature range is the constraint. Send us the working conditions and we confirm the grade.

What density and hardness can you supply?

Density 200–500 kg/m³ and hardness 10–60 Shore C. Because both vary independently, specify the hardness you need in Shore C and the compression set you will accept, rather than density alone.

Can you supply profiles or only sheet?

Both — sheet and cut profiles. Send a drawing or a sample of the section you need, plus the quantity, and we confirm tooling and lead time at quotation.
