Coloured insulation tape

The same NBR foam tape in pigment-dyed colours, for pipework that is colour-coded end to end — at the joints, fittings and bends as well as on the straight run. Width, thickness, roll length and adhesive options are identical to the black tape.

NBR, not PE. Closed-cell NBR (nitrile rubber) foam, made to our formulation. A large share of the low-priced foam insulation sold in this market is EPE or PE foam — it photographs the same and costs far less, because it is a different material.

Where coloured tape is used

Identical foam and identical adhesive options to the black tape. The colour exists for one job: keeping a service code continuous over the joints that the tube cannot cover.

Closing joints in a coded line

A colour code that stops at each joint is not a code. Tape in the matching colour carries the identification across the 1.83 m joints, bends, tees and fittings.

Fittings and valves on coded services

The parts most often left unmarked because they are wrapped rather than insulated with tube. Tape is the only practical way to code a valve.

Commissioning and maintenance identification

Where the point of the exercise is that the next fitter does not have to guess. This is a safety and handover requirement in most hospital, laboratory and industrial projects.

How to choose colour and adhesive

Two decisions, both made at enquiry stage:

Colour per service — Red, blue, green or black as standard. Order the same colours as the tube and sheet, from the same mechanical schedule, or the system will end up half-coded.
Adhesive version — Mesh-reinforced where the tape is pulled — tight bends, fittings, joints that will be disturbed; standard adhesive for flat wrapped joints where strength is not critical. Width, thickness and length are the same as the black tape: 50 mm × 3 mm × 10 m standard.

The colour adds no thermal or moisture performance — μ ≥ 10,000 and the closed-cell structure are the same as the black tape. What it adds is the only thing that makes a colour code work: continuity.

Installation points that decide whether it works

Glue the joint faces first, then tape over the closed joint — in a coded line, the tape is doing two jobs at once.
Overlap each turn by about half the width and press the overlap down; the colour will not hide a lifted lap.
Wrap in the direction that sheds water, with laps downhill.
Keep tension light. Stretching thins the foam and lifts the tape within weeks.

Questions buyers ask before ordering

Is the coloured tape the same as the black tape?

Yes — same closed-cell NBR foam, same μ ≥ 10,000, same 50 mm × 3 mm × 10 m standard roll, and the same choice of mesh-reinforced or standard adhesive. Only the pigment differs.

Do we need tape in every colour, or just the main one?

Every colour that appears on the mechanical schedule for that system. A line coded blue over 90 % of its length and black at every joint reads as two different services.

Which colours are available?

Red, blue, green and black as standard. Other colours can be discussed at quotation, with minimum quantities depending on the roll size.

Does the tape fade?

Pigment is in the foam, so it does not peel or wear off. Long ultraviolet exposure will fade the surface — colour coding is intended for indoor or protected pipework.
